From Asunción or Ciudad del Este, travel south through Resistencia-Corrientes (Route 123), or through Encarnación-Posadas (Route 14) to reach Uruguayana-Bella Unión. From there, Route 3 crosses all of Uruguay from north to south.
Puerto Unzué is where Routes 9, 12, and 14 converge, and from there you cross the General San Martín International Bridge to Fray Bentos, in the Department of Río Negro, Uruguay. From there, Route 2 crosses Soriano and Colonia, where it meets Route 1, which leads directly to Montevideo. Argentine Route 14 provides access to the city of Colón, connected to Paysandú (Uruguay) by the General Artigas International Bridge. Route 3 heading south also connects with Route 1. The route is the same if you enter through Concordia via Argentine Route 14, crossing the Salto Grande dam to the city of Salto; from there, Route 3 to Route 11 heading east, or continue to Route 1 and from there to Montevideo.
You can enter through 6 different border crossings—two through the Department of Artigas (Barra do Quaraí-Cuareim and Quaraí-Artigas), BR 472 and BR 377.
Through the Department of Rivera (Santana do Livramento – Rivera), BR 158, 512 kilometers north of Montevideo.
Two through the Department of Cerro Largo (Aceguá-Aceguá and Jaguarão-Río Branco), BR 473 and BR 116.
Through the Department of Rocha (Chuí-Chuy), BR 471, from where you reach Punta del Este via Route 9, traveling along the entire east coast of the country.
