Irrigation as the solution

Irrigation of crops has two main effects: it stabilizes production, or creates a minimum, and increases yields compared to non-irrigated areas on average.

The average increase (6 years) in production in Uruguay is approximately:

+40% for soybean

+90% for corn

+30% for pastures

Currently, it is cheaper to irrigate 1 hectare than to buy 1 hectare in Uruguay.

Our role in these projects

• Build the Master Plan that enables efficient irrigation, namely:
  • Identify the feasibility and quantify the costs of water sources:
    • Nearby rivers that allow water extraction.
    • Topographic and hydrological studies and the construction of efficient reservoirs.
  • Identify the feasibility and quantify the costs of the appropriate technologies for applying irrigation.
    • Sprinkler irrigation
    • Drip irrigation
  • Identify parcels with available energy and costs.
    • Electricity: UTE is a key player in this process.
  • Prepare the Project with CAPEX and the implementation schedule.
    • Detailed studies of the parcels prioritized for each stage of the development.
  • Management and coordination of works / turnkey Project.
  • Interact and coordinate activities and procedures with all public entities and obtain permits.

Tax Incentives for Irrigation Investments

• IMEBA: Tax credit of 10% of the investment (excluding VAT) + VAT refund (22%) if not exempt.
• IRAE: Exemption of up to 60% of the value of the irrigation investment from income tax, deductible over 7 to 12 years.
• COMAP's role: Evaluates investments and promotes irrigation technologies, reducing risks and increasing productivity.
• Additional Benefit: The depreciation is added to the 60%, maximizing savings for producers.
